The Zycron BDPA Scholarship Program awarded $2,500 to students pursuing a 2-year or 4-year academic program related to IT. The national program is part of Zycron’s overall education initiatives designed to support students pursuing academic success and to further promote its belief in the power of education. And it is my plan to continue supporting organizations that provide access to education resources, because education is the great equalizer.”

Student candidates completed a thorough application that was reviewed by a panel of IT executives from multiple corporations. The applicants were rated on the quality of their essays, their academic achievements and their community involvement.

Zycron Named TVA’s Diverse Supplier of the Year

Tennessee Valley Authority presented Zycron with the Diverse Supplier of the Year Award at its 2016 Supplier Diversity Outreach Summit on June 7.

The award – which TVA says highlights Zycron’s outstanding contributions over the past year – is another testament to the strong partnership Zycron has maintained with TVA for the last 24 years.

“As our first major customer, TVA took a chance on Zycron in 1992 and gave us an opportunity to do business. We haven’t looked back since,” Zycron Executive Chairman Darrell S. Freeman said. “As a native of Chattanooga, I am personally grateful that doing business in the Tennessee Valley has allowed Zycron to create jobs and provide a positive economic impact for the community.”

The Supplier Diversity Summit was a day of learning and networking opportunities in Memphis, Tenn., where small business participants learned the basics of contracting with TVA. And TVA executives reminded participants that they “bring a variety of thought, background and experience,” and their success “directly benefits the individual communities in which you live, which in turn strengthens the whole Tennessee Valley.”

Zycron is celebrating 25 years in the information technology industry, and TVA has been a major factor in its growth. When Zycron began working with TVA in 1992, Zycron had two employees. Today Zycron has more than 350 employees, is one of the largest IT services firms based in Tennessee, and has received numerous awards and recognition including: Best of Staffing Client Satisfaction National Award, No.1 Tech Services Firm by Nashville Business Journal, Business Journal Future 50 (four-time award winner) and Inner City 100 Company. TVA exposed Zycron to many cutting edge technologies, and it was able to use the experience gained at TVA to court other major customers around the country.

The Tennessee Valley Authority is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power distributors serving more than 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states.

Zycron Celebrates 25 Years In Information Technology

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – When Tennessee native Darrell S. Freeman started Zycron in 1991 inside a 150-square foot office  with $2,000, he had no idea that 25 years later he’d be running one of the largest IT services companies in the state. As a young entrepreneur, he was merely seeking a way to support his family and have flexibility while he and his wife raised their four children. Thanks to great client partnerships, a dedicated staff and an experienced leadership team, he has been able to fulfill his dream and pave the way for many others.

Today Zycron is a leading provider of IT consulting, IT governance and outsourcing, employing more than 350 professionals across the country. Zycron has five domestic offices in Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, Dallas and Denver, and has international operations in South America. Black Enterprise Magazine lists Zycron #74 among service companies on its BE 100s list, an annual report on the nation’s largest black businesses. And in 2015, Zycron was awarded Inavero’s Best of Staffing Client Award, a national award for providing superior service to its clients.

“In a rapidly changing information technology landscape, we have positioned this company as a sustainable industry leader,” said Freeman, who now serves as the company’s executive chairman. “The Zycron team is headed in the right direction and I am very grateful to each team member who has worked hard to carry out a vision that began 25 years ago.”

Zycron revenue for 2015 was $40 million.
